San Bernardino County's Measure I doesn't change today's rate
Measure I is on the ballot across San Bernardino County. It would keep the county's existing 0.5% transportation sales tax going after it ends on March 31, 2040. Pass or fail, today's rate stays the same. The San Bernardino County city rates above already include that tax.
When would a new rate start?
Not on election day. The tax laws we found for these measures use a 110-day rule. If a measure passes, its new rate starts on the first day of a calendar quarter, and that day must be more than 110 days after the election.
The ballot analyses for Adelanto and Ontario give April 1, 2027. The analysis for Twentynine Palms expects the same date. The materials we found for the other 7 cities give no date. CDTFA will confirm every start date, even the ones in a ballot analysis. If a measure fails, that city's rate stays the same.
FAQ
Common questions
Does my sales-tax rate change after November 3?
Only if your business is inside a city with a sales-tax measure on the ballot, and that measure passes. Even then, the new rate doesn't start on election day. CDTFA will confirm the start date. If the measure fails, your rate stays the same. Find your city in the table above.
When would a new sales-tax rate start?
Not on November 3. Each measure starts on a date set by its own rules, and CDTFA will confirm it. The ballot analyses for Adelanto and Ontario give April 1, 2027. Twentynine Palms expects the same date. The materials we found for the other cities don't give a date.
What is the City of Los Angeles sales tax rate if Measure FD passes?
10.75%, up from 10.25% today. Measure FD would add a new 0.5% city sales tax. The City's ballot pamphlet gives no calendar start date, so CDTFA will confirm it. If FD fails, the rate stays at 10.25%.
Does Measure I change the sales tax rate in San Bernardino County?
No. Measure I would keep the county's existing 0.5% transportation sales tax going after it ends on March 31, 2040. Pass or fail, today's rate stays the same. The city measures in the table above are separate.
Do I need to change the rate in my register now?
Not yet. Today's rate applies until a new rate starts. If your city's measure passes, the new rate applies from the start date CDTFA confirms, not from election day. This page will show that date once CDTFA publishes it.
